Sustainability

At Nomad Archipelago, we are committed to responsible and sustainable cruising. Our operations are guided by a range of initiatives designed to minimise our environmental footprint and support the places we explore.

Solar-powered Indonesian liveaboards

Our eco-friendly liveaboards are equipped with extensive solar arrays and sufficient battery storage to ensure that, at anchor, we operate entirely on renewable electricity. With this investment, we achieve two goals:
  • First, we reduce diesel consumption by 100 litres and prevent around 270 kg of CO2 emissions daily.
  • Second, we remove the need for noisy generators. At anchor, our boats are silent—allowing guests to be fully immersed in the sounds of nature, especially during the golden hours of sunset and sunrise, and throughout the night.

No Air Con

We’ve made the conscious decision to exclude air conditioning from our vessels. Both Bugis and Bajau were built without air-con to eliminate the emission of ozone-harming gases.

To ensure comfort, all cabins are located above deck, well insulated, fitted with fans, and designed with large windows and louvres to harness sea breezes. This passive cooling approach keeps things quiet, energy-efficient, and connected to the natural environment.

Onboard water makers

Each liveaboard is equipped with water makers, providing a continuous supply of fresh water while eliminating the need for single-use plastic bottles. This investment helps us reduce waste and maintain a low-impact presence at sea.

Operating responsibly

Sustainability guides every aspect of our day-to-day operations. We prioritise locally sourced ingredients for onboard meals, employ local guides and services, adopt a no single-use plastic policy, and use biodegradable, eco-friendly products wherever possible.

These practices not only reduce our environmental impact but also generate meaningful benefits for the communities we visit.

About Nomad Plastic

Nomad Plastic is a regenerative enterprise tackling plastic pollution and supporting biodiversity in some of the world’s most fragile ecosystems. At the heart of their work is a clean, circular pyrolysis process that transforms low-value plastic waste into usable fuel—helping to reduce environmental harm while generating local economic opportunities.

By working directly with coastal communities, Nomad Plastic builds decentralized systems that empower local people to collect, convert, and benefit from plastic waste that would otherwise pollute their environment. These systems are designed to be adaptable and locally managed, ensuring long-term sustainability and community ownership.

Nomad Plastic also provides consultancy services to help others establish similar systems—offering tailored feasibility studies, technical support, and impact monitoring.

Their mission is to create local solutions with global impact: practical, scalable models that regenerate ecosystems, reduce waste, and support the communities most affected by environmental degradation.

About Blue Alliance Marine Protected Areas in Indonesia

Blue Alliance Indonesia leads marine conservation efforts in the Banggai Archipelago, one of Indonesia’s most ecologically important yet vulnerable marine regions. Working in close partnership with local communities and government, their field teams operate year-round to manage and protect the Banggai Marine Protected Area (MPA) Network—covering nearly 900,000 hectares of coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass meadows.

Their core operations focus on science-based MPA management, habitat restoration, and community-led enforcement. Blue Alliance field staff monitor key species, support sustainable fisheries, and deliver training and resources that empower local communities to take a leading role in protecting their marine environment.

Their efforts have helped stabilise vulnerable habitats and safeguard rare species like the Banggai cardinalfish, endangered Napoleon wrasse, and several species of sharks and turtles. The impact is both ecological and social—restoring biodiversity while strengthening local livelihoods and food security in an area where most families depend on the sea.

Where We Go

Each of our destinations offers a chance to slow down, connect with coastal cultures, and experience the ocean in its most vivid form. From manta rays and mangroves to village visits and limestone peaks, we choose to explore places that offer immersion over itinerary—remote, wild corners of Indonesia that reward curiosity, patience, and the quiet joy of discovering what lies beyond the map.
